Traditional non-stick is achieved by coating the fry pan with PTFE (PolyTetraFluoroEthylene); a waxy, synthetic substance. PTFE has well-documented disadvantages in practical household use. Above 260° C/500°F, this PTFE coating starts to decompose. The released fumes are proven to be lethal to small pets like birds! On humans, these fumes can potentially harm the respiratory tract and cause nausea and headaches. So, when you overheat your pan you damage not only your pan but possibly also your health.GreenPan™ does not use PTFE, but brings with Thermolon™ non-stick technology a healthy alternative to the market. Thermolon™ is heat resistant up to high temperatures. This means that GreenPan™ has an extra safety feature; if you overheat your pan, even up to 450°C/850°F, no toxic fumes will be released and the coating will not blister or peel.

Our non-stick pots and pans are the first to be made with a non-stick coating made of minerals instead of plastics.
PTFE coatings are manufactured with the aid of PFOA (PerFluoroOctanoic Acid), which is classified as a ‘persistent pollutant of the environment’*. Besides that, PFOA is a tough chemical that the body has the greatest difficulties in expelling and is known to be a ‘likely human carcinogen’*. We don’t use PTFE, so no PFOA can be emitted in the environment. * According to the EPA (Environmental Protection Agency, a US federal agency in charge of the protection of human health and the environment)
Less energy is used when Thermolon™ is applied on GreenPan™ products, which means 60% less CO2 emission compared with the production of PTFE-coated pans. We process used materials into new products to prevent waste of potentially useful materials. Therefore we use upcycled stainless steel for the handles and upcycled aluminium for the cookware bodies. GreenPan™ actively puts effort in research on how to minimize and optimize packaging materials.
Nowadays, cooking and eating has become so much more than fulfilling a primal need. We are aware of what we eat and cooking has become really ‘hot’. Thermolon™ is a better heat conductor than traditional coatings. This results in superb searing and crispy frying!
