The "sun" shines onto the nine planets as they orbit around it. The central tower and planetary support rods are black so that they "disappear" in a darkened room for a spectacular effect! Replace the solar dome with the star dome includeto create a spectacular planetarium sky complete with major constellation names.

Grades 1 and up.
In addition the base features a special 1000-hour light bulb and planetary longitude marks so the planets can be set up to their correct positions.

Not only is the GeoSafari Motorized Solar System fun for any room (especially a kid's room) but it's also educational! What more could you ask for when trying to teach a child & open their minds to the solar system! This is also a great tool for the classroom to spark some interest!
It's hard to imagine the solar system & how it works when just reading about it! But when you can actually see it in action is when a kid will more easily grab the idea of rotation & the support of the sun! Personally I had absolutely no interest in this subject when taught in school. Only if I had something like this when I was a kid it may have made a huge difference!

Another concept that can be grasped through the Motorized Solar System is size! A visual representation of the planets makes learning this so much easier! Throwing in the distance & position can also be demonstrated very clearly!

This has truly sparked a huge interest in our boys! But it has also sparked an interest in us adults also! I have never really cared or knew about constellations but now it's really interesting! This is the perfect summer gift for the kids to help them get acquainted with the solar system. Summer nights are the best to look at the sky!
